Custom Cohorts & Group Trainings
We Believe In Making Resilience A Graduation Requirement.
We've seen endless demonstrations of modern culture, both through the lens of direct experience and the media: children and the adults responsible for them are at an impasse. Dr. Leonard Sax, a family physician and psychologist, refers to this culture-of-disrespect as a complete collapse of parenting. At Mind Your Motion, we are inclined to believe today's kids and their lack of resilience has resulted from a wide array of factors, namely poor lifestyle choices, an insistence on outsourcing emotional regulation to licensed professionals, and the absence of recess, play, and discomfort training. Dr. Camilo Ortiz, a child psychologist specializing in childhood anxiety, has studied an approach referred to as "independence therapy", in which he encourages children to commit to doing that which they're afraid of--- WITHOUT their parents, their speech or behavior therapists, or their social workers. Through continued exposure to that which is scary, and collecting proof of their abilities, symptoms of anxiety don't even need to be explicitly explained.
Our method plays off of Independence "Therapy" by using nutrition science, psychoeducation, discomfort training through physical activity, and lifestyle change to rewire our brains towards tenacity.
Live Group Training Options
Our group cohorts are live, weekly sessions that integrate psychoeducation, descriptions and 'lecture' on the Mind Your Motion method, and highly interactive tasks for participants to complete, during and in-between sessions. We do begin with a 12-week "foundations" timeline for parent and behavioral-health provider small group sessions; custom cohorts, in which our entire time together is customized to your exact needs, can be flexible in duration.
Parent Sessions
Parents are understandably exhausted by the circular advice they're given; if I discipline my child, will they be traumatized? Should I actually tell them "no", or should I redirect them to something else instead? And what about their health? They refuse to eat vegetables and they just want to watch YouTube on their iPad! All of these concerns are those which we address through lifestyle changes, a series of rigorous lifestyle audits, training on psychological and behavioral concepts like motivation and resilience, and Q and A with each session to address your specific concerns. We train minds through neuroscience, movement, behavior change, and inquiry- not therapy or TikTok trends.
The Basics:
-
60-90 minute weekly sessions
-
12-week total duration
-
Remote (or in-person for locals!)
What Do Sessions Look Like?
-
Each week dives into a new topic that builds off of the last; sample topics include nervous system training and strengthening (understanding how anxiety manifests as physical), lifestyle design (quality sleep, screen habits and dopamine detox, crafting a social environment), Socratic self-inquiry (learning to challenge distorted beliefs, change our behaviors, and ask better questions)
-
Each session will include an interactive demonstration of the skills; we call these "behavior studies".
What About Between Sessions?
-
All participants will receive tasks between sessions to reinforce the skills learned during our time together. It is imperative you complete these with unabashed honesty!
-
We are available via chat and email to respond to any questions you may have, concerns that are brought up, or to offer support for challenges as well as triumphs.
Small Group Sessions For Healthcare Providers
Your clients likely do not need more therapists, more providers, more billable hours, or the latest trend in "mental health". They need resilience training. We equip providers with the knowledge of their body and mind, brain science, physical grit, and a new perspective on wellbeing. We help build mental fitness in providers so they're better prepared to handle the difficulty of behavioral health work, much of which revolves around symptom management. It's essential, at least to us over at Mind Your Motion, that we "unlearn" all that modern social-emotional learning has taught us. Desperately trying to manage and tend to our emotions has done little more than increase rates of depression and anxiety amongst our clients; we offer a full-spectrum protocol for rewiring the brain, the belief systems, and the behavior.

What Do Sessions Look Like?
-
Each week dives into a new topic that builds off of the last; sample topics include behavioral science coaching (geared toward nutrition and lifestyle habits rather than venting, run-of-the-mill 'parent training', and focus on grit), Socratic dialogue (to unlearn the beliefs we've been sold about health, well-being, and human behavior), becoming critical consumers of information through regular debate, negotiation, and mental models training, attention training (through careful architecture of the environment, whether that be a clinic, a home, or a classroom), and how to bring about and teach radical responsibility in those we serve.

Custom Cohort Sessions
Our custom cohort sessions, at their face, are very similar to how parent sessions and providers sessions are conducted. Each session is based on Mind Your Motion's values and pillars and will contain psychoeducation/integrative tasks across topics like neuroscience, behavior science, nutrition, and lifestyle intervention. The primary difference between customized cohorts and our other offerings is that each session, along with our overall timeline and end-goal, is hyper-specialized to your needs. Parent sessions and small groups follow our signature trainings with set topics and course material. Customized cohorts can learn these topics, but they will be entirely tailored to your clients or students, your staff's specific needs, your agency's mission and goal, and your preferences for learning. We are flexible people, after all.
